Wireless broadband just got even more wireless - Wireless broadband just got even more wireless
NetComm Limited has displayed its new MyZone 3G Router at the CTIA Wireless convention in Las Vegas. The MyZone is a pocket-sized wireless hotspot that creates a private network in the home, at work or on the road. And it’s not just the signal that is wireless. The MyZone needs no power leads, no Ethernet cables, no USB plugs and no external antennas to offer full functionality.
Operating from an internal battery, the MyZone connects via an embedded 3G SIM and allows users to share an Internet connection across multiple devices. It weighs just 75 grams, measures 10cm by 6cm and is less than 1cm thick. With a stylish gloss black housing, the NetComm MyZone is definitely the best looking and most compact embedded 3G router on the market.
The integrated Lithium-Ion battery delivers power for up to four hours of operation and 40 hours on standby. A micro USB port allows the MyZone to be charged up or else directly powered from your computer or other suitable source. Frequent travellers will certainly appreciate the unit’s size and lack of required leads, chargers and transformers.
Peak data speeds for the MyZone are 7.2 Mbps on an HSPA network, making it quite feasible for everyday use.
The pocket size of the unit makes it an extremely practical way for people to maintain a connection on the road, especially when sharing a connection amongst family or colleagues. The MyZone offers a superior solution in this regard compared with 3G USB dongles, where each person needs to have their own dongle and account. Dongles also provide varying reception quality, easily influenced by the particular setting where the computer needs to be situated. The MyZone offers much better reception than a standard 3G dongle arrangement and furthermore, the unit can be placed in a location that guarantees maximum signal strength without the need to move the users’ computers.
Managing Director of NetComm Limited, David Stewart, says that the MyZone answers the twin demands for flexibility and dependability.
“The MyZone gives customers the chance to stay connected to their work with a minimum of hardware,” said Mr Stewart.
“The MyZone is more than an ‘office in a box’, it’s an office in a pocket,” he said.
“Besides offering great connectivity for the end user, this sort of device provides carriers with an effective marketing tool for their networks,” said Mr Stewart. “By allowing people to share a connection, carriers can expose the benefits of their 3G networks even to users who are not currently customers.”
